While reading my favorite fitness magazines on a plane ride last week, I came across a quote from a woman who had succeeded in losing over 100 pounds and is now happy, healthy and above all confident:
“Whether it’s my clothes fitting better or someone paying me a compliment, I focus on enjoying the journey”
Many of us put so much stress on meeting a certain goal and not patting ourselves on the back for our mini accomplishments along the way. I used to say, “I’ll be happy when I lose these last 10 lbs,” or “Life will be good once I look like that.” Don’t wait until you reach your goal – life happens in between. Remember – the journey between what you once were and who you are now becoming is where the dance of life really takes place. Enjoy the adventure, learn from your ups and downs, and be present getting to know yourself better throughout the process. In the end, it’ll make your achievement that much more sweet and yourself that much stronger.
Wherever you are in your fitness journey, don’t ever forget to enjoy the here and now. You might not be as skinny as you want to be, have the dream job you desire or be where you thought you would be at this point in your life, but at the end of day, you have a body that keeps you alive, a roof over your head and probably friends and family that would give an arm and a leg for you. I’ve been there and sometimes catch myself thinking like this every once in awhile, but what you look like on the outside DOES NOT define who you are, nor how happy you deserve to be.
Always know, you are beautiful inside and out, just the way you are. Keeping this in mind will help you achieve any goal or dream you set out to achieve.
